BUILDING STABILIZATION & REPAIRS
Ever since 1995 when the Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society was formed, the primary goal has been to stabilize the
building against further deterioration. Much has been done in this area . . . much has yet to be done. This project will
take time, effort, and money, all of which were again put forth in 1998-2003. Many thanks to the volunteers, financial
donors, and the local business community.
Accomplished To Date. . .
- Outside facing stone replaced on north elevation
- Replacement of broken interior gutters and downspouts
- Work underway for small amphitheater at rear of building on site of demolished hospital building
- Preparations for restoration of warden's dining room and parlor
- Cell block stair treads replaced for improved safety
- Continued trash & debris removal from cell block areas
- On going painting of cell areas and warden's stair case
- New, hard-paved, parking lot in connection with Richland Correctional Institute, available to Reformatory for special events
- Security improvements including new latches welded to all exterior doors
- Pigeon roost in old infirmary is now clean of years of droppings (removed by environmental firm)
- 5000 square feet of roof replaced over large central guard room
- Exterior stone veneer stabilized

The old Ohio State Reformatory is now being transformed
into a museum and tour facility to increase the cultural, social,
and economic life of Mansfield, Ohio. We are open in the
summer for tours and money raised through
donations, gift shop purchases, and rentals go
directly into the restoration of the building and stabilization
of the structure (preventative maintenance).
